Actor Nico Tortorella (Scream 4, The Following, Younger) stars in Hunter&Game, an indie comedy that answers the question What if Spinal Tap took place in Brooklyn in 2015? Hunter&Game will have its East Coast Premiere at the 2015 AoBFF.

The 2015 Art of Brooklyn Film Festival is proud to screen the East Coast Premiere of Hunter&Game, a new indie documentary-style comedy about a band youve probably never heard of. The film stars Nico Tortorella of TV Land’s hit show Younger and Cameron Scoggins of Playwrights Horizons. AoBFF calls it “a hilarious update of Spinal Tap, set in the Williamsburg music scene.”

The band called Hunter&Game consists of two twenty-something best friends named Sasha (Cameron Scoggins) and Carson (Nico Tortorella.) Over the last year and a half, the Brooklyn-based duo have created a buzz around their indie-electronic project and are poised to have a breakthrough with the release of their debut LP.

A week before the release, Sasha and Carson welcome a Catalan documentary film crew into their Bedford-Stuyvesant apartment (which doubles as a practice space) and let the documentarians shadow their lives. Despite their excitement about the debut album and upcoming tour, things dont go as Sasha and Carson had hoped. The film crew gingerly follows the action, realizing they have stumbled upon a more interesting story than the one they anticipated.

The film was shot almost entirely in Brooklyn in many well-known Brooklyn venues. Because of the fleeting nature of Brooklyns underground music scene two of the venues in the film 285 Kent and Body Actualized Center have already closed down.

HBO has opted not to go to series on Mamma Dallas, its comedy pilot by Enlightened creator Mike White, which followed a conservative Texan family who unwittingly hire a hard-living drag queen as their live-in nanny.

With its concept, the project was considered a big swing and, while it is not going forward, HBO remains committed to its creator, as reiterated by the networks programming chief Michael Lombardo. Mike White is one of the most talented filmmakers working today and we feel honored to have worked with him on Enlightened and the Mama Dallas pilot, he said in a statement to Deadline. The latter only reinforced our views of Mikes prodigious talents. Unfortunately, after much discussion we have decided not to proceed to series on this work. We truly hope that we will find another opportunity to work together.

Written, directed and executive produced by White, Mamma Dallas centered on Liberty (Augustus Prew) who appears to be an attractive woman with a flirty side but shes really a drag queen with an upbeat personality. On a path that leads to jail or prostitution or both, Liberty (also known as Albert) sees a future that will destroy his basically optimistic spirit and re-invents himself to get a job as a nanny to three children of a conservative Texan family. Paul Fitzgerald, Mary Catherine Garrison and Nico Tortorella co-starred. White executive produced the pilot with Dede Gardner.

Paul Fitzgerald, Mary Catherine Garrison and Nico Tortorella will co-star opposite Augustus Prew in Mamma Dallas, HBO’s comedy pilot by Enlightened creator Mike White, who also will have a role on the show. Written, directed and executive produced by White, the half-hour project follows a couple, Carrie Cox (Garrison) and Hugh Cox (Fitzgerald), who unwittingly hire a hard-living drag queen, Liberty (Prew), as their live-in nanny. Liberty appears to be an attractive woman with a flirty side – but she’s really a drag queen with an upbeat personality. On a path that leads to jail or prostitution or both, Liberty (also known as Albert) sees a future that will destroy his basically optimistic spirit and re-invents himself to get a job as a nanny to three children of a conservative Texan family.

With her decorating business taking off, perfectionistic Carrie needs a nanny to help with the kids, and it doesn’t occur to Carrie that she’s having a long talk about childrearing with a drag queen. Hugh is an earnest, successful man with political aspirations who is deathly afraid of any hint of scandal.

Tortorella plays Liberty’s lowlife boyfriend Jesse, who runs a chop shop and steals high-priced sports cars with Liberty’s help. He’s horrified that his macho friends will find out he’s dating a guy.

White plays Liberty’s roommate Tammy, a chain smoker who is always strung out and has no life ambitions.

White is executive producing the pilot with Dede Gardner.

The 12-episode series hits the small screen in January 2015.

TV Land’s new comedy Younger has an official premiere date and an official full-length trailer.

Starring Tony winner Sutton Foster and Hilary Duff, the 12-episode Younger will premiere Tuesday, Jan. 13, at 10 p.m. ET/PT on the Viacom-owned cable network, The Hollywood Reporter has learned.

From executive producer Darren Star, Younger follows 40-year-old Liza (Foster), a single mother who tries to get back into the working world, only to find it’s nearly impossible to start at the bottom at her age. When a chance encounter with Josh (Nico Tortorella), a young tattoo artist, convinces her she looks younger than she is, Liza tries to pass as 26 – with the help of a makeover, courtesy of her best friend (Debi Mazar). Miriam Shor co-stars.

Filming is underway in Williamsburg, Brooklyn. Patricia Field, who worked with Star on Sex and the City, will serve as the costume designer on Younger.

“We are all excited about the premiere on January 13,” said Larry W. Jones, president of TV Land. “This show is sleek, alluring and all-around fantastic. The characters are funny and relatable, Darren is full of creativity and the sexy cast is bringing their A-game. The end of every script leaves us wanting more.”

The news comes one day after TV Land greenlighted two new comedies: Michael Rosenbaum’s Impastor and Teachers, executive produced by Community’s Alison Brie.

Examiner.com interviewed Nico about ‘The Following’ and Jacob, the character he portraits.

Here’s the first part from the interview:

“The Following is easily the best new show of the season, with each week bringing thrills, chills, edge of your seat moments, and surprises. On Friday, we chatted with series star Nico Tortorella, who plays Jacob, one of Joe Carroll’s (James Purefoy) followers who is “a product of the upper-middle class who is deep-seated with daddy issues,” as the actor describes him.

Examiner.com: Where does Jacob fall in the “hierarchy,” I guess you could call it, of the followers? We see that Emma’s [played by Valorie Curry] the leader, but what’s Jacob’s role?

Nico Tortorella: “We all have our specific roles and relationships with Joe and in terms of the hierarchy, I don’t know that there necessarily is. There are people who are second in command who will come up later, but in terms of my position I would say that I’m in charge of somewhat taking care of his son right now, so that’s pretty high up there because between his wife and his son, that’s really what he’s trying to take care of.”

He knows they both love him, crazy enough, and he loves both of them.

How much will we see of Jacob in flashbacks?

“A lot. You’re going to learn a lot from Jacob. You’ll learn a lot from all the followers actually in flashbacks. The show lives just as much in flashbacks as it does in real time. It’s kind of like the prequel to everything that you’re seeing.”

How would you describe Jacob’s relationship with Emma?

“Jacob and Emma start dating three, four years ago, and it’s pretty strong. He’s definitely fully in love with her and looks up to her and is her best friend too.”

And Jacob’s relationship with Paul [played by Adan Canto]?

“It’s relatively the same. He definitely loves and cares for Paul. He’s been in a house for three years pretending to be in a relationship with him. We kind of completely support each other in terms of being part of this cult. You’ll see really how it all unfolds pretty soon.”

And how does it affect Jacob how he sees things between Emma and Paul?

“He’s kind of the mediator between the two of them. We’ve all spent time together before, but this is kind of like our big reunion and this is the first time we’ve been living in a house together and it sucks for him, but he knows they both love him, crazy enough, and he loves both of them, so he’s just going to do whatever it takes to make it work.”

It’s a pretty dark show. Are there any moments that stand out for you?

“It’s pretty dark, and that’s the whole theme of the show, but I think that a lot of the characters, our storyline, Kevin Bacon included, are able to bring moments of comedy to the show and light-hearted moments, which are my favorite parts of the storyline personally. It’s not all bad.”
