The new season of TV Lands wildly addictive Younger premieres tomorrow night. Based on the Pamela Redmond Satran novel of the same name, the Darren Star-created series follows 40-year-old divorce Liza Miller (Sutton Foster), who must lie about her age to rejoin the publishing industry after raising her teenage daughter. Once shes hired, Liza begins to live the life of a 26-year-old, complete with a new millennial gal pal, Kelsey (Hilary Duff), and a sexy tattoo artist boyfriend, Josh (Nico Tortorella). All with the help of her 40-year-old best friend Maggie (Debi Mazar), who happens to live in a hip Brooklyn apartment.

SPOILERS AHEAD

At the end of season one, Liza revealed her secret to Josh. Though he initially broke things off out of anger over her lies, the season finale ended with the duo agreeing to start fresh by sitting down for a cup of coffee. Meanwhile, Lizas daughter Caitlin (Tessa Albertson) was preparing to arrive in Brooklyn.

How will Liza tell her daughter that shes been moonlighting as a 20-something? Will Josh take her back? And how can she keep her secret to herself when more and more people know the truth? Before we tune in to find out tonight, we posed some of those burning questions to Tortorella, the shows resident heartthrob.

When we come back [for season two], Josh knows Liza is 40, he says. Now were just trying to figure out if this relationship has feet to stand on.

He says Josh, who often acts as the shows moral compass, will grapple with the subterfuge. He has been trying to deal with the fact that shes still lying to everybody else, and I think for Joshwho has lived this very authentic lifehes really struggling to figure out what this relationship means to him.

Sutton Foster and Nico Tortorella

And while Josh is unsure of his feelings for Liza, theres no denying the chemistry between Tortorella and Foster. Its crazy! he says laughing. We genuinely love each other.

Ditto the rest of the cast. Ive worked on a ton of other projects and theres always one person who has an ego, he says. But [on Younger] we show up,we do good work and we have a good time.

BUT HE PLAYS ONE ON TV. THE ACTOR FROM YOUNGER AND THE FOLLOWING SHOWS OFF HIS REAL INK.

Italian-Americans fit into two stereotypes: Italians from New Jersey, whose mother can cook better than yours; and Italians from the rest of the country (their mothers also cook better than yours). Nicolo Luigi Tortorella is one of the latter, born and raised in the northern suburbs of Chicago.

In my household, people were always cooking, he remembers. Sunday dinner wasnt a tradition his family could easily give up when Tortorella moved to Hollywood, his parents soon followed.

My parents moved out to LA when I was 22 and both got their medical [marijuana] cards, Tortorella said.

Even though Mr. and Mrs. Tortorella didnt smoke pot while their sons were growing up, they found themselves living in Los Angeles with 40 plants growing in their backyard. They sold the green to dispensaries and their booming business became a family affair. There was one point where its me, my brother, my brothers girlfriend, and my parents all sitting around this big dining room table at their house clipping all the fucking weed, Tortorella says.

While his parents cultivated a new hobby, Tortorella starred in Scream 4 and The Following. Now he plays Josh, a tattoo artist on TV Lands Younger alongside the Goodfellas mistress Debi Mazar, a woman he calls incredible.

Though the actor is significantly tattooed in real life, his role calls for even more ink. [The fake tattoos] make me feel a little dirty, he says, because theyre not real.

Mike Maddi, a former makeup artist for Saturday Night Live, spends about 45 minutes applying the fake sleeves. They are really fucking annoying to take off, Tortorella says. It takes about two long hours of scrubbing to fully remove the ink.

Tortorella is sure he would never get 90 percent of the tattoos his character Josh has, but he plans for at least one more major piece: I want to get a lion and a cub for my Ma. Shortly after this issue goes to print we are hooking the actor up with that tattoo from Po Po.

His right arm is ink free, I think Im going to leave it like that. On his left bicep is a portrait tattoo of his grandfather, a World War II veteran, done by Kat Von D.

The conversation with Tortorella always seems to return to family. He didnt have the traditional upbringing we saw on 90s sitcoms (thanks to his uncle, for instance, he spent the bulk of fifth grade as an Italian boy struggling to go vegan), which is likely the reason his social ideals are very open.

I was dating these two girls in Dallas, who were dating each other, he says. They were always dyeing their hair crazy colors. This led to him dyeing his hair 20 different colors in 2015. Being able to share hair dye aside, joining a girl-on-girl relationship is fucking awesome, he reports.

Inked across his collarbone is the phrase not this. not that. beyond definition. He says, We as a culture spend so much time labeling everybody and everything. But we are all one. [Sexual fluidity and gender fluidity] is something I live by, stand by, and represent.

His Younger characters love life is also unusual. Broadway actress Sutton Foster plays Liza, a 40-year-old housewife pretending to be a 20-something book editor in Manhattan. As their relationship evolves, Josh, a tattoo artist living in Brooklyn learns her real age. Naturally, the news angers him.

If the actor faced Joshs situation in real life, hed react similarly. It doesnt matter to me. Why the fuck [would you] lie? Tortorella asks. The sexiest thing is full commitment to who you are and what you stand for.

Tortorella will celebrate one-year alcohol-free on January 13, I went like 10 solid years of boozing, he says. I was just over it.

If Im going to do something, Im going to do it in full. That go-hard-or-go-home attitude also applies to his future tattoos. Im at a point where Im going to continue to get tattooed and be covered in a couple of years, Tortorella says, or Im going to flat-out stop.

Tortorella reveals his abs and the tattoo niconiconico by Max Hanson (Dr. Woos apprentice) that rests at the bottom of his chiseled-out V. Its kind of my brand these days, he says of the ink. Around his neck a long necklace holds 300-year-old iron charms: one Viking cross and two Viking luminaries of the moon that were found in a treasure chest off the coast of Florida.

Tortorellas parents are now living in Florida and working to obtain medical cards in the Sunshine State. Tortorella calls Brooklyn home, but New York City is hardly his favorite city. Neither is his hometown of Chicago. Tortorellas favorite city is LA. According to him, the food is hands-down better quality.

Some Italian.

High on our list of reasons to love TV Land’s Younger (and there are so many of them) is a guy named Nico Tortorella. The 27-year-old Illinois native plays Josh, the hipster love interest of Sutton Foster’s Liza, our 40-masquerading-as-26 protagonist. In season one, Josh’s equally irresistible good looks and decent heart helped keep Liza invested in her high-maintenance lie. Going into season two, she’s confessed her real age to Joshthe rest of the millennials in her new life don’t knowand he’s accepted her kooky lie. (See: the decent heart thing.) Younger returns January 13 with a special one-hour premiere, and since we’re already pumped, we talked with Tortorella to learn more about his tats, season two, and his hard-crushing Instafans.

When you went out for the part of Josh, what did you know about him? What were they looking for?

All I knew is that he was a tattoo artist who owned his own parlor. That was it. But I knew that it was Darren Star [producing the show]. I knew it was Hilary Duff. I knew it was Sutton Foster. I knew it was Debi Mazar. It was a no fing brainerthis is a project I want to be a part of. I’ve seen every episode of Sex and the City [which Star produced].

We don’t hear that from guys every day.

In my defense, my girlfriend in high school and college was a huge, huge fan. We watched every episode together.

You have lots of tattoos as well, so I’m sure you totally looked the part walking into the audition.

For sure. I walked in in a tank top with a bunch of tattoos showing. I had my nose pierced at the time and little gauges in my ears, too. I would say I was the L.A. version of Josh. When I got the part, we took all the piercings out and added a bunch more tattoos and a white T-shirt and flannel, and I became New York Josh.

So when we see your tats in the show, some of them are real and some are makeup?

Yeah. It’s a combo. I have quite a fewI started at a young age. My mom actually took me to get my first tattoo when I was 15. She highly regrets that choice now, as I have a lot more.

What are some of your favorites?

We saw a little spark in season one and even more in the season two trailer but could there actually be something real between Charles and Liza on Younger?

I wish I could ask you to come in, but that could get both of us in trouble, Charles (Peter Hermann) says to Liza (Sutton Foster) in the season two trailer for Younger. Immediately my mind went into a question hole: What about Josh (Nico Tortorella)? What about Lizas boss who is totally in love with Charles? Does Charles know her real age? Luckily HollywoodLife.com sat down with the cast for some exclusive scoop.

Yeah, I think there is [something there], Sutton admitted during a recent press visit, while Nico added that its definitely an undertone during the upcoming season. It hasnt been explored obviously, but I think theres like a shared appreciation of books and of literature, and like you look at Charles and youre like, Oh thats the guy she probably should be with, or is supposed to be with. But then you fight for Josh. Its tricky. Its a love triangle, Sutton added.

We obviously knew there would be some problems coming for #Jiza this season, since in the trailer hes crying and it could be because the trust just isnt there for him. All he wants this season is honesty, Nico told us.

The thing is, shes now getting everything she always wanted. Its harder and harder for her to let go. The problem arises that now he has to lie to all of our friends, Sutton said. It just becomes complicated. Its like an ethical thing. Lizas like, Am I just a crazy person? Is it all still worth it? And she chooses work over things. Nico chimed in during the conversation, admitting that he actually forgets that the main storyline is Liza lying about her name.

You have lies in your name, he then said turning to Sutton. Lies-uh. I never thought of that either. Lies-uhhhbout a lot of stuff. Thats like a great Josh line! We have to agree lets add it in!

Its no secret that I love all things TV Land and am a huge fan of their show, Younger. I have worked alongside my TV Land family, live tweeting the premiere and am an avid viewer from home. I dont need a twitter party to motivate me to live tweet what I love (as you all know). I have enjoyed the entire first season but havent crossed paths with any of the stars, until now.

A mutual friend, Richard Hine alerted me to the fact that Nico Tortorella had done this amazing Indie film, Hunter&Game, about the world of Indie music in my hometown of Brooklyn, NY. This was of major interest to me because Nico is a favorite actor of mine but also because I have many friends who are Indie musicians in NYC and was even a part of the scene for a few years myself. (promotions mostly, not performing).

When I was given the opportunity to speak to Nico about the film, I didnt hesitate to say YES. I was not disappointed in any way. Nico Tortorella is as fun to talk to as you would imagine from seeing him on screen. He definitely shares many qualities with his character Josh on Younger in his spirit, authenticity, and ability to make others feel comfortable around him. He also shares the fun loving quality of his character in Hunter&Game, Carson. You can tell why he was drawn to the character and why the character is so endearing.

We spoke last Friday night about life, Younger, and of course Hunter&Game. I think you will enjoy Nicos advice, humor, and insight as much as I did:

Tell me a little about Hunter and Game. What drew you to the role?

Ninety percent of the film was real life. I was supposed to read for Sasha but I knew I had to go in for Carson. Carson was obviously the role I was meant to play, he is the heart of the movie. So, I smoked a joint, put on a fur coat, and got the role.

Are you a musician as well as an actor?

This week, Sony Entertainment Television announced that US break-out comedy series Younger would be making its exclusively UK premiere on the Sony channel (Sky 157/Virgin 193/BT and TalkTalk 331) this November.

Written and directed by Darren Star, the man behind Sex and the City, the show follows the “laugh-out-loud misadventures of a fresh-faced 40-year-old mother taking extreme measures to climb the career ladder.”

Eventually told by a lover she picked up in a bar that she looks much younger than she really is, she decides to take a whole decade off her official age and take another shot at chasing her dream career.

Lost in a world of pop culture she’s watched pass by, she hopes her cover won’t be blown and realises that the secret to life may simply lie in being a good liar.

Sutton Foster leads the cast, with Hilary Duff, Nico Tortorella, Debi Mazar and Miriam Shor also starring.

Younger premieres in the UK at 10pm on Sony TV on Wednesday, November 25.

Exclusive! Interview with US Magazine ‘Sutton Foster Chemistry’

Age may be just a number, but it’s no secret that Youngers Liza is a lucky lady! Nico Tortorella plays the hunky tattoo artist, Josh, who went from fling to forever on TV Lands new series. The token hottie on the breakout comedy comes from a background in TV, getting his first big role on ABC Familys Make It or Break It before moving on to a recurring spot on Foxs The Following and a part in 2011s Scream 4.

Now hes a series regular on this summers clever (and insanely sexy) new show, which stars Broadway legend Sutton Foster and Disney alum Hilary Duff, to name a few. Josh is the twentysomething stud who wins the heart of Liza (Foster). Unfortunately, shes a 40-year-old woman posing as a woman in her twenties, and as fans saw on the June 2 episode he ends up finding out.

So what does the future hold for Losh (Jiza?)? Tortorella, 26, exclusively spoke with Us Weekly’s Rachel McRady about his character’s complicated relationship and this seasons finale:

Us Weekly: In the latest episode, Liza tells Josh the truth about her age and he walks off. Do you think theyll be able to work through it?

Nico Tortorella: I mean, I hope so, you know. Its a big lie that was revealed and yeah, he was high on ecstasy when it happened, which was a major buzzkill. You know, it sucks. It sucks whenever that happens, however that happens. I dont know, I think that come the last episode, the two of them will be able to have a conversation about it and see where it goes from there.
